I REFER to Fridaty's online letter by Mr Seetow Cheng Fave, 'Live coverage of badminton tourney interrupted for an EPL match'. We thank Mr Seetow for his interest in StarHub's coverage of Yonex All England Open 2008.
To meet the viewing needs of badminton fans, StarHub aired the Yonex All England Open 2008 Quarterfinals 'live' in full on March 8, from 1.30am to 7am on SuperSports (Channel 22), and repeated the quarterfinals in full at noon. As the semi-finals of the same tournament were expected to take place over five hours in the evening, we decided to air two hours of the semi-finals 'live', intersperse the telecast with 'live' coverage of the Premier League, and continue with a slightly delayed telecast of the semi-finals later in the evening. The semi-finals were also repeated in full the following day.
Mr Seetow was right in pointing out that StarHub's Football Channel (Channel 27) is dedicated to airing Barclays Premier League matches. As there were three Premier League matches taking place concurrently on March 8, we decided to air the soccer matches 'live' on all three of our available self-packaged sports channels - Football Channel, SuperSports and SuperSports Plus (Channel 21) to cater to fans of the respective soccer clubs.
We sincerely apologise to viewers for any inconvenience caused. While we aim to carry all sporting events 'live', this is not always possible as there are occasions whereby a number of events take place concurrently. We thank Mr Seetow for giving us this chance to explain our situation to all affected viewers and would like to assure all that we will continue to strive harder to provide quality and uninterrupted sports programming that meet their expectations.
