Reckless bus driver at Sembawang Park
I HAD a horrific experience at the bus stop opposite Sembawang Park on Saturday night. My friends and I were trying to catch bus service 882 as it made the loop at the end of Sembawang Park. Being the only male in the group, I was the fastest to reach the next bus stop way before the bus arrived.

When the bus stopped at the bus bay, I partially boarded it, with my right foot still on the ground, and requested the driver to wait for my group. He refused. As my friends were less than 20m away from the bus, I persisted in my request. What happened next was extremely shocking and dangerous.

When the bus driver saw that the fastest of the group had reached the bus stop, he tried to close the door on me. The door hit me and I held on to the step railings, with my right foot still on the ground. Next, he inched the bus away from the bus stop. He stopped briefly to open the door and then continued to drive away. The front door was wide open, with me holding onto the railing and part of my body dangling out of the bus. Throughout the whole ordeal, he kept telling me he would not wait. I did not respond as I focused on maintaining my balance. He only stopped after a couple of metres away from the bus stop and I quickly got off. The bus driver did not stop to see if I alighted safely but simply drove off with the front door still open. I managed to take down the bus plate number.

The bus driver's actions were extremely dangerous and unacceptable. On hindsight, I should have made the request without boarding the bus. Nevertheless, the bus driver was wrong to blatantly disregard the safety of his passengers.
