WILL the authorities do something about touting in Boat Quay? I read with interest about a month ago how Boat Quay is turning into a 'watery grave' and that it has sadly been labelled as the 'red light district of F&B' in Singapore. How apt the descriptions were.
I was walking down the stretch from North Bridge Road last Thursday and I could not have been more disgusted by the way that staff of various seafood restaurants and bars touted their business. Menus were being shoved in my face and I was even blocked in my path. I had to push a persistent tout out of the way.
My mother and a friend of hers, who both live in England, and are aged over 60 years old, came over to Singapore to visit me three weeks ago. I took them to Boat Quay and touts harassed us no end.
The authorities should do something about this, otherwise Singapore's reputation will be tarnished. Imagine the consequences when hordes of tourists arrive for the F1 race this year and the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
