WE READ with interest the article, '$500m upgrade for Changi's Terminal 1' (ST, Feb 15).
While we welcome the move by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to give Terminal 1 a much-needed facelift, we have one concern - the new T1 viewing mall.
Currently, the T1 viewing mall - albeit old - presents aviation enthusiasts with a vantage point for 'aircraft-spotting' as it is the only one of three viewing malls in Changi with an unobstructed view of the tarmac.
In contrast, much to the disappointment of many aviation enthusiasts and visitors, including Mr Kenneth Lam Wei Xian ('Lights mar T3 viewing mall at night'; ST, Jan 30), lights, glass and reflector panels mar the view from the T2 and T3 viewing malls.
Therefore, we would like to request that the newly-refurbished T1 viewing mall - when completed in 2011 - be free of any objects such as glass and reflector panels, which could mar its view.
This will allow for aviation enthusiasts, locals and visitors who frequent the highly-popular T1 viewing mall to relish a panoramic view of the tarmac.
