Ban those who post sarcastic and offensive remarks from using discussion board
I FULLY agree with the views of Mr Dudley Au whose letter, 'Forum not a place for personal affronts or sarcastic remarks' (Online forum, Feb 14), is a wake-up call to editorial staff of The Straits Times to be more vigilant in nailing the culprits to the wall.

The Straits Times should get tough with some of the irresponsible participants who have posted sarcastic and offensive remarks and ban them permanently from using the ST Discussion Board.

It should also have a rule that if two persons can show that an online participant's remarks are offensive and inappropriate, the editor should investigate the complaints. If the complaints are found to be true, this will be good enough to warrant a permanent ban on him. His true identity should also be exposed in order to shame him and for the aggrieved parties to bring legal action against him if necessary.

This will make those who hide under the cloak of anonymity to think twice before they post their comments on the discussion board.
