AT 6.45AM on Thursday morning, my two daughters, my mum and I boarded a taxi (SHC 6219L) from Jurong East with the intention of going to Lakeside MRT.
The moment we got into the taxi, we could smell a strong stench of cigarette smoke. The driver's window was open but in less than five minutes, the driver wound it up again.
My eldest daughter asked me if she could wind the window down and I thought it would be right and polite for me to check with the driver first. So when I said to him: 'Excuse me, uncle, do you mind if I wind down the window for a while?', to my dismay, he answered in Hokkien that 'if you are not happy, you can get down from my taxi. It's okay one!'
He continued: 'You know, taxi drivers like us need to take coffee in the morning and, after which, we need to puff a stick of cigarette.'
It is simply outrageous for a taxi driver to behave this way.
I think he should be more considerate, especially when he is in the service industry. Moreover, he should be more sensitive to consumers' needs.
