Have a makeover for a greener and more orderly Jalan Kayu
IT USED to be a quaint country precinct with many little sundry shops, eateries and service enterprises during the 50s and 60s which catered mainly to the many British personnel who were stationed at the RAF base in Seletar.

Now it is a hodgepodge of eateries, some sprightly clean and others not so, sundry shops, an assortment of indiscriminate commercial enterprises, haphazardly parked vehicles, rubbish bins and rubbish heaps, and a block of grimy derelict two-storey houses with some unshuttered windows (possibly infested with vermin as they seem deserted) to add to the disorder.

There is this constant irritant of noisy traffic trying to negotiate the congested two-lane road and cars parked horizontally beside the road.

Some shopowners have erected canopies up to the sidewalk space where pedestrians need to walk safely.

Furthermore, one of the derelict houses has its frontage overgrown with grass, and unkempt shrubbery, encroaching upon the road, and compelling pedestrians to risk walking on the road.

Under present chaotic conditions, this place is waiting for an accident to happen.

Maybe a facelift or makeover can make for a greener, cleaner and more orderly Jalan Kayu to match other clean and green precincts that give us so much pleasure and pride living in Singapore.
