Sentosa could not cope with the seasonal crowds
THE first thought that struck me after our family day out at Sentosa is that 'Will Sentosa be ready to cater for the crowd during peak holiday periods when Resorts World is up in 2010?'

On the second day of the Chinese New Year at about 1pm, we arrived by car at the ticketing booth on the bridge leading to Sentosa island. The staff told us that 'the island is full' but let us through without collecting money for car and visitors' entrance. Along the way, we followed clear signages which eventually led us to park our car at 'Sentosa Cove Plaza'.

As it was a public holiday, it was reasonable to expect long queues at the various attractions.

However, I am wondering if the management has already had the optimum Sentosa Bus services in place? At about 6.20pm at Imbiah, we waited for about 40 minutes for the Blue Line Bus to take us to the Beach Station. The bus moved very slowly as there was a traffic jam. While we were at the Beach Station waiting for the Shuttle Service to take us to 'Sentosa Cove Plaza' car park, we noticed that there was a long line of people stretching at least 100 metres waiting for some other bus service.

Seeing this situation, I cannot help but imagine the possible chaos as a result of a long line of people waiting for Sentosa bus services when the day is much more busier than what I have witnessed.

At the end of a day out at Sentosa during the peak holiday season, it is sad to hear many visitors lamenting the lack of frequent bus services which resulted in time wasted waiting. Many visitors spent nearly eight hours in Sentosa but managed to visit only one attraction. We eventually crossed the bridge at about 8.35pm.

No doubt, we ought to strive to provide world-class service even in the most unexpected situations like a sudden surge in the already inflated number of visitors for certain busy days.
