UPON hearing a joint promotion by a local radio station 95.8 with a restaurant 'Old Hong Kong', my family ordered the radio promotion dish and a Yu Sheng to add to what my family had already planned to prepare.
We asked for our order to be delivered on Lunar New Year eve between 3pm and 4pm as my family planned to have our reunion dinner later in the evening.
The restaurant captain agreed and we were asked to make full payment.
Three days before the eve, the captain called, saying that they could not deliver at the time we requested. Instead, we were asked to choose between two options, either delivery by noon or by 6pm. We chose to have the dish delivered by 6pm.
On the eve, our dishes did not arrive by 6pm and we did not hear from the restaurant about any delay. We made numerous attempts to call the restaurant but the number was always busy. Not knowing when the order will arrive, we started having our reunion dinner without waiting. By the time our orders came at around 6.40pm, we were already halfway through our reunion dinner. We rejected the order and asked for it to be returned.
We understand delay is possible during the peak period. But what irks my family is, the restaurant made no attempt to keep us informed of any pending delay. The restaurant is not contactable throughout the whole time and we have not heard from them since then.
A joyous reunion dinner was soured by the episode. And we didn't get to 'Lo Hei' which is a tradition for my family.
