PIN sent to customers by mail to prevent possibility of impersonation: SingTel
I REFER to the letter, 'SingTel should e-mail PIN to customers and save environment' by Mr Masood Mohajer (Online forum, Jan 22).

As part of SingTel's environment sustainability efforts, SingTel myBill was introduced to allow subscribers to access and pay their bills online anytime. They can view their itemised electronic bills and save the information in their computer for easy retrieval which reduces paper clutter.

Customers need to key in a PIN to register successfully for SingTel myBill. As a good security practice, the PIN is sent to them by mail to prevent the possibility of any impersonation. There are risks associated with e-mailing the PIN to the customer as e-mail is not a secure mode of communication.

We thank Mr Mohajer for his feedback and we will review the procedures for sending out the PIN.
