Here is a young girl who possesses a strong desire to study in Singapore, but has failed in all six attempts to secure a place in a neighbourhood school.

Many Singaporeans of Seo Eun's age would be put to shame by her perseverance despite the fact that she encountered setbacks. I wish they would emulate her courage and thirst for education.

Some of our young Singaporeans take things for granted and do not appreciate the amenities and facilities available in their schools. Others do not value their studies and drop out prematurely.

Given Seo Eun's impressive track record back in Korea and her determination to excel in what she does, I hope that this young Korean girl's dream will come true soon.

If it materialises, it will be her best new year present ever.
