I REFER to the article, "From staid to funky, annual reports are evolving" (ST, Dec 21).
It was indeed an excellent idea to use alternative media to present annual reports and MDA (Media Development Authority of Singapore) should be lauded for its effort in spearheading the green drive on this.
Imagine the number of trees saved if Annual & Funds (A&F) reports can be put into thumbdrives and distributed to shareholders and investors. It is even better than using recycled paper. Besides, short videos/slides could also be incorporated to improve overall presentations.
After all, those glossy and sometimes bulky reports will end up with the karung guni man. Some will even go straight to the rubbish chutes.
I also urge Telecoms to distribute its phone directory in thumbdrives instead of CDs now and customers should be able to make their choices known via its website. This will certainly prompt more people to choose thumbdrives over CDs and paper.
These thumbdrives should be at least 1GB or more and recipients can reuse them after reading/use. Not only will it cut down mail charges (for bulky annual reports), but organisations can also incorporate advertisements by putting their corporate logos on the drive and lanyard.
All organisations should thus look into the possibility of using other non paper-based media in a win-win situation.
