I REFER to Sir Kerry Jewel's letter, 'Stroke victim from Sydney sings praises of SGH and Royal Plaza on Scotts staff' (Online forum, Oct 12).
We are glad that Sir Kerry is well on his road to recovery. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the perception that Sir Kerry received preferential treatment at SGH as he was a Knight.
When Sir Kerry was seen at SGH, he did not reveal his title. We only learned of his honorific title subsequently from his letter.
He was treated like any of the anxious patients worried about their condition. The medical treatment which was jointly provided by SGH and National Neuroscience Institute was the standard treatment for any patient, regardless of their status.
Sir Kerry was especially anxious as he was alone in Singapore. Our staff provided the necessary comfort and support as we would have provided to any patients in need, and advised him on travelling and follow-up care back in his home country.
