I REFER to the letter, 'Bus service not consistent - commuter had to wait 25 minutes for bus' by Lee Yoke Eng (Online forum, Oct 1).
To facilitate our checks on the late arrival of our bus, we have contacted Ms Lee to obtain more information about the trip.
We found that Service 189 was delayed on the morning of Sept 26 as one of the buses had broken down during an earlier trip. The situation was exacerbated by traffic congestion along Bukit Batok East Avenue and Clementi Avenue 6, which caused the frequency of this service to be delayed for more than 20 minutes.
With regard to Ms Lee's comment that there is no published schedule, we wish to share that the approximate frequencies of our bus services are published in the TransitLink Guide and our website: http://www.smrt.com.sg/buses.html. At the same time, we are working closely with the Land Transport Authority on the real-time bus arrival information, which is currently on trial at 30 bus stops. This system allows commuters to view the bus arrival timings from a display panel at the bus stop where they are boarding.
We seek Ms Lee's understanding on this matter and would like to give the assurance that SMRT will continue to explore innovative ways to provide greater convenience to passengers.
