Mega churches are socially responsible
I AM perturbed by Dr Lee Bee Wah's letter, 'Some mega churches affect students adversely' (ST, Sept 19).

Having attended several mega churches, I find them to be socially responsible. Not only do they share the gospel with the congregation, they also provide community services including child development programmes, student care centres and family service centres.

The bigger churches have the resources to run welfare initiatives for the aged and the physically handicapped and visually impaired.

Many student volunteers involved in such community activities find them enriching which in turn mould them to be more compassionate and tolerant when they become adults. In fact, they conduct themselves well in school as well as at home.

I hope what Dr Lee has experienced will not have any impact on the many churches which have immensely contributed to the well-being of the community - spiritually and socially.
