WE REFER to the letters by Ms Chan Wai Si, 'StarHub removes one channel from package but offers no rebate', and Mr Richard Kang, 'Even carrom is shown on sports channel, so why not squash?', (Online forum, June 22).
First, we would like to address Ms Chan's feedback on the migration of Jet TV to the 'Chinese Plus II' digital group.
Jet TV and TVB8 are presently bundled together to form the 'Chinese Plus' group, which is available for a monthly subscription fee of $6 (before GST).
From July 1, TVB8 will be added to the 'Chinese Entertainment" Basic Group at no additional cost to customers of this Basic Group.
On the same day, Jet TV will join seven other channels - Channel [V]Mainland China, Channel [V]Taiwan, ETTV Asia, Phoenix InfoNews, TTV World, TVB Xing He Channel and XING KONG, in the 'Chinese Plus II' digital group, which is available at $8 (before GST) monthly.
Ultimate Value Pack customers who add on the 'Chinese Plus II' digital group by June 30 are offered a 50 per cent discount off the 'Chinese Plus II" digital group for the first three months.
We would like to clarify that the $4 (before GST) increase in the Ultimate Value Pack monthly subscription fee from July 11 is a result of rising general content costs and does not include the comparatively higher costs of sports programming.
Ms Chan may be glad to note that StarHub's Ultimate Value Pack customers will not be affected by the $10 increase in our Sports Group subscription fee which will take effect from October 2007.
Similarly, customers of our Ultimate Value Pack were not affected by the previous sports subscription fee adjustment in November 2004 either.
In addition, in recent years, more than 10 channels - including Star Chinese Channel, Star Chinese Movies and Celestial Movies - were added to the Ultimate Value Pack at no additional cost.
With reference to Mr Kang's request for more squash matches to be carried on StarHub's pay-TV platform, we are glad to inform Mr Kang that we are presently in negotiations with content providers for the telecast of some squash events.
If these negotiations are successful, we would be able to bring these matches to local squash fans towards the end of the year.
Finally, we would like to thank Ms Chan and Mr Kang for their feedback, and we hope that we have adequately addressed their concerns.
