I REFER to the story, 'Jurong Stadium to be turned into race arena?' (ST, May 25).
The Jurong Stadium is located just about 250m next to a residential estate.
The area is peaceful, serene and quiet on weekends and in the evenings when the traffic is much reduced.
This is also the time when we, the residents in this area, get to enjoy the serenity on our restful weekends and after a hectic day at work on weekdays.
I am strongly against the idea of turning the Jurong Stadium into a race arena.
Why? Imagine the noise and smoke pollution generated by the dirt-bikes and go-karts.
Worse still will be the proposed competition and sport of drifting. What we will get is the constant high-speed screeching of tyres on the tarmac course.
Please, let us have our well-deserved peace and quietness during our rest days on weekends and evenings.
We definitely don't need to be further troubled nor deafened by all these unnecessary activities.
All these noisy activities should rightfully be organised at a location far away from residential areas.
I trust the Sports Council will seriously take the above into consideration.
