Asian shares mixed at midday

KUALA LUMPUR
At 12.30pm on Friday, there were 166 gainers, 345 losers and 277 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia.
The FBM-KLCI was at 1,295.79 down 6.15 points, the FBMACE was at 4,174.44 down 5.11 points, and the FBMEmas was at 8,719.78 down 38.43 points.
Turnover was at 271.382 million shares valued at RM465.612 million (S$197 million).
HONG KONG
Hong Kong stocks rose 0.19 per cent on Friday in line with regional markets after a rally in the afternoon.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index was 40.15 points higher at 21,370.82.
Turnover was HK$58.73 billion (S$10.5 billion).
Chinese shares closed up 0.71 per cent, led by metal companies on news that Chinalco had signed a deal with Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto to develop a massive iron ore project in Guinea, dealers said.
The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was up 21.66 points at 3,067.75 on turnover of 103.2 billion yuan (S$21.1 billion).
TOKYO
Japanese share prices closed 0.75 per cent higher on Friday, recouping some of the losses from the previous session, as traders moved back into exporters.
The benchmark Nikkei-225 index rose 80.69 points to 10,824.72. The broader Topix index of all first section shares increased 8.14 points, or 0.87 per cent, to 948.93. -- AFP, BERNAMA
