More parental maintenance complaints settled through mediation
Fewer parents took their children to court last year for failing to provide an allowance, with most complaints being settled through mediation.
The Commissioner for the Maintenance of Parents was approached for help by 286 elderly parents between January and October last year.
In all, 85 per cent of these cases were resolved amicably without going to the Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents.
This was an improvement on the previous year, when 78 per cent of cases were resolved through mediation.
