A MAN fell 12 storeys to his death on Saturday night while a fire raged in his flat where his two young children lay dead in their bedroom. Neighbours in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 heard two explosions at about 9.50pm and saw thick, black smoke billowing out of the sixth floor unit in Block 543.

THE tough economic times - and more generous maternity benefits - appear to be prompting increasing numbers of firms to fire pregnant women or deny them their full entitlements. There were 119 'pregnancy- related' complaints lodged with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in the first nine months of the year - up from 72 for the whole of 2007, and 95 last year.

SINGAPORE'S economy may grow by 3 per cent next year and Singaporeans must be prepared for slower growth for several years, said Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Sunday. In a speech at the Tanjong Pagar GRC Tree Planting Day at Henderson Heights, he said Singapore will not resume high growth until the major economies in the world have recovered, which could take years.
