WITH less than a month to go before the Schools National Cross-Country Championships, a huge question mark hangs over the route for the event.
On Thursday, NParks revealed that the route at the Botanic Gardens venue will have to be changed, as a stretch of it, the Red Brick Path, will not useable.
Said an NParks spokesman: 'The route will be revised slightly, and will not include the Red Brick Path.'
Chan Jim Kee, 56, the Co-Curricular Activities Branch (CCAB) advisor to the organising committee for this year's cross-country event, would only say: 'We will be meeting NParks to discuss the route.'
Under the original route, the race was supposed to start and end at the Ministry of Education's Co-Curricular Activities Branch (CCAB) Stadium at Evans Road. In between, the runners would loop the NUS campus grounds, then run through the Botanic Gardens, before returning via Evans Road.
Sources said that construction works are among the reasons for the route change. But they added that safety concerns could have also been contributing factors.
