Major Mohammad Hatta Yusof Jalaludin was in his sports utility vehicle with his friend when the car crashed along the North-South Highway, near Seremban. It is not clear who was driving.

He died of his injuries in hospital. His friend, whose identity is unknown, is said to be in a critical condition.

No further details on the accident are available.

Maj Mohammad Hatta's body was brought back to Singapore and buried on Saturday.

He leaves behind wife Suraya Abas, 35, who was not available for comment. The couple have three children aged between three and 11.
