TIMOR-LESTE President Dr Jose Ramos-Horta who escaped an assassination attempt on him in Dili in February, will attend an international press gathering here on May 24.
The Foreign Correspondents' Association of Singapore (FCA) has invited Ramos-Horta as the guest-of-honour for its annual gala dinner.
Mr Ramos-Horta is expected to deliver a keynote address during the dinner which will be attended by diplomats, Singapore government officials, public policy-makers and top business captains, apart from FCA's 250 members.
Nobel Laureate Ramos-Horta was wounded during the Feb 11 attack on his home by rebels and was sent to a Darwin hospital in Australia for treatment for more than two months before returning to Dili on April 17.
During the gala event, FCA will also present its top yearly honours to an aspiring journalist, 'The FCA/Dennis Bloodworth Memorial Journalism Prize'.
The award is named after celebrated author and founder of the FCA of Singapore and former Far East Correspondent for the UK Observer, the late Dennis Bloodworth.
Many distinguished business and political leaders, including Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, have addressed the FCA over its 52-year history. -- BERNAMA
