S'porean entreprenuer makes flattening glass bottles his business

IF YOU ever wondered what a flattened bottle of Absolut vodka looks like, ask Mr Leon Ang.

The entrepreneur has turned his passion into a business by reshaping alcoholic glass bottles into two-dimensional keepsakes.

He picked up the skill in Melbourne seven years ago when he was studying film production at RMIT University. He spent four months learning the craft from a hippie glass artist.

The 31-year-old can make about 20 to 40 bottles every three days, using a kiln he had installed in the backyard of his Upper Thomson home 1 1/2 years ago.

His unusual hobby evolved into an enterprise when he realised people were willing to pay for his work.

Today, his company, Recycled Bottle Art, sells about 60 to 70 bottles a month. Most of his bottles are sold for between $60 and $80.
