One less mall, one more open space
SHOPPERS can soon look forward to resting their tired, weary feet at a new public open space above Dhoby Dhaut MRT station after mall-hopping down Orchard Road.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said the 1.3 ha site - about the size of 1 1/2 football fields - is actually slated for commercial use. But there are no commercial development plans for the next 10 years.

The new public space, which has yet to be named is designed by Mr Chan Soo Khian of SCDA Architects.

It will be divided into three sections, with an open-air amphitheatre as its main feature.

URA estimates building costs to come to about $4 million, while maintenance costs will be about $20,000 annually.
