Defence Minister on official visit to M'sia

MINISTER for Defence Teo Chee Hean is in Malaysia on an official visit.

He called on Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib as well as other Malaysian leaders on Tuesday.

The Ministers reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), and discussed the importance of enhancing bilateral ties.

They also touched on the regional security situation, the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) and the on-going co-operation in maritime security, such as the 'Eyes in the Sky' and co-ordinated sea patrols.

Minister Teo also visited the Royal Malaysian Air Force base and Headquarters Integrated Area Defence System (HQ IADS) at Butterworth in Penang on Monday.

On Wednesday, he will speak at the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College, said a Mindef statement on Tuesday.

The minister is in Malaysia until Wednesday.
