Police stumble upon vice den
POLICE combing a forested area in Yishun on Thursday morning for fugitive Mas Selamat Kastari stumbled instead upon what appeared to be a vice den run by Thai nationals.

Eight men and 13 women between the ages of 21 and 39 were detained for immigration offences in the jungle along Yishun Avenue 6, said the police.

Witnesses said they saw about eight police cars parked in the area with a number of Gurkhas leading the foreigners away at about 7am. The men were believed to be workers living in a nearby dormitory.

Used condoms littered the ground around makeshift beds and mattresses in the open-air den. Shelter came in the form of canvas sheets which were draped from tree to tree.

According to a foreign worker who refused to be named, the shady operation has been going on for about three years. He said that the women, who made the den their home, prostituted themselves to foreign workers who lived in the area.

The women, who were rotated every two to three weeks, charged between $15 and $25 for sex, he added.

Police said that investigations are ongoing.
