Suspect Mum
Magistrate goes to hospital to charge recovering 36-year-old with murder of her Sec 1 son
Kang, who is divorced and jobless, has been transferred to Changi Women's Prison for psychiatric evaluation.
A mother has been charged with the murder of her 13-year-old son.

A field magistrate visited Tan Tock Seng Hospital yesterday morning to charge Kang Kah Li, 36.

Her son, Tan Eu-Jin, a Secondary 1 student at St Gabriel's Secondary School, was found lying motionless in his bedroom in the wee hours of Friday morning by his grandparents who shared the same Toa Payoh flat.

Kang, who was in the same room, was bleeding from cuts on her wrists.

Eu-Jin, Kang's only child, was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital but died 40 minutes later.

It is not known how he died, but police officers were seen picking out tablet wrappers from a rubbish bin linked to the family's flat.

Kang, who is divorced and jobless, was transferred to Changi Women's Prison for psychiatric evaluation yesterday.

Her former husband is said to be working in the retail industry overseas.

The penalty for murder is death by hanging.
