LONDON - DIDIER Drogba is intent on burning his bridges at Chelsea as he plots a dream move to AC Milan.
While insisting he will be fit to face Manchester United in the Champions League final next Wednesday in what could be his last game in a Blues shirt, he also accused his 'complacent' teammates of throwing away the English title.
And in his autobiography published in France yesterday, he declared: 'All footballers dream of signing for Milan.'
He revealed that he met Milan's vice-president Adriano Galliani two years ago, after telling his then-manager Jose Mourinho he was flying to Paris for a dental appointment.
When Galliani asked him, 'When would you like to play for Milan?', Drogba replied, 'Whenever you want'.
The next day, Galliani called Chelsea to make an offer, but was instantly rejected. Mourinho was so angry he made Drogba play in the reserves the following night.
Speaking to French sports paper L'Equipe on the launch of his book, the Ivorian said of his immediate Stamford Bridge future: 'There are two ways of looking at this question. I've got everything at Chelsea. I'm very settled. I've won over the fans and I can say I've paid back my transfer fee.
'But I'm 30 years old and if a new challenge comes along, and if you've got to do it, then now is the time.'
He also expressed his frustration at the silly points Chelsea dropped in the title run-in, which ultimately handed United the Premier League crown.
On four occasions, Chelsea were pegged back in the last minute in home matches, among them by Everton, Aston Villa and, crucially, Wigan.
'Losing those eight points has been massive for us,' said Drogba.
'It is far too many for us to lay claim to being champions. It is certainly proof of too much complacency and a lack of concentration on our part.
'Each time we had the result in our hands, but sometimes, we mentally finish games before the referee blows the final whistle.
'United deserved their title.'
Chelsea are already considering Drogba's replacements.
They have gone as far as making an audacious £40 million (S$106 million) bid for Fernando Torres, which Liverpool have turned down, according to reports in Spain.
The Blues will now turn their attention to Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov, Stuttgart's Mario Gomez and Valencia's transfer-listed David Villa.
