Train frequency rises today to ease peak-hour congestion
BETTER SERVICE: The two train operators are adding 93 trips per week. -- TNP FILE PHOTO

WHAT IT IS

MORE frequent train services to run during peak hours from today.

WHY IT MATTERS

Train operators SMRT and SBS Transit have said they will add 93 train trips - 83 for SMRT and 10 for SBS Transit - every week to ease peak-hour congestion in the mornings and evenings.

This will mean less-crowded trains and a cut in waiting times by up to 15 per cent.

And when the carrying capacity of the North-South and East-West lines is increased by 15 per cent in four years with new trains, waiting times will be reduced to two minutes.

This is part of the Land Transport Review - a road map for how Singapore will move its population in the coming years.
