LONDON - DAVID Beckham is desperate to have a daughter. But his pop singer wife Victoria is worried that another pregnancy will make her fat.

And that has set off a string of rows between football's celebrity couple, according to The People.

The former England captain, who has started wearing loose-fitting clothing to increase his fertility, wants his wife to get pregnant immediately after her Spice Girls tour ends next month.

He is hoping to add a little girl to their three boys.

'But Victoria is revelling in the success of the band reunion and loves the partying that comes with it,' a close friend of the couple said.

'She feels she has played second fiddle to him for long enough. Now, it's her time to shine again.

'As far as she's concerned, another baby is not on the agenda right now. It's causing strife in the relationship. You can feel the tension.'

Posh Spice has even hinted that three children might be enough for her.

In a joint interview with American TV host Barbara Walters last month, Beckham said: 'I want to have more children. I would love to have two more. I've always wanted a big family.'

But Victoria did not share his enthusiasm, pointing out: 'Er, I've had three.'

The People's source added: 'David was mad at Victoria's response. He is desperate to have more kids and wants to start now. He doesn't love partying, he'd rather be at home. He's at his wits' end.'

Meanwhile, Steve McClaren, the former England coach, believes Beckham may not get more than 100 international caps.

The midfielder is set to reach the milestone in next month's friendly against Switzerland. But McClaren does not believe his successor, Fabio Capello, will continue to stick with the 32-year-old.

'I think it will be difficult for him, at his age and this stage of his career, to maintain the required level of fitness and performance required for international football by playing in America,' said McClaren.
