I LIVE in Block 475 at Pasir Ris, a segmented block. I was glad when my block was selected for the lift upgrading programme.
However, after looking at the floor plan for the new lift in the brochure given to us, I was very disappointed that the new lift would not connect to my main door. Instead another door will be made at my tiny balcony (1.2m x 1.6m) that will connect to the lift.
What is the use of having two entrances to a small flat? Won't it encourage housebreaking as one of the entrances will be under-utilised?
The interior of my flat has been done up according to the existing layout. My shoe cabinets are built-in and are next to the main entrance. My entrance foyer has been done up nicely, according to feng shui principles.
On the other hand, some of the segmented blocks in the vicinity have been upgraded and the lifts lead to the main doors.
The Government wants to provide direct lift access to every home on every floor but the lift must lead to our main doors as this will be more practical.
I will continue using my existing entrance and if the new lift does not connect to it, then to me it would be a white elephant.
