A SINGAPOREAN photographer has won an international competition with a quirky picture featuring special football 'players' kicking a ball.

Stan Wong's Finger Kickin' Good won first prize in the Special Effects Category of the International Photography Awards, an annual mega-event drawing almost 30,000 professional and amateur photographers.

It is widely regarded as the most prestigious photography competition, and the grand prize winner walks away with the International Photographer Of The Year Award and US$10,000 (S$15,274).

Wong, 27, a freelance commercial photographer, said that inspiration for the pictures struck when he came across a tiny shoe prop in one of his other photo shoots.

The Chelsea Club football fan cast his hands as the football 'players' dressing them in blue socks, the colour of the club, and tiny shoes. The 'grass' on the pitch was the carpet in his studio.

The title of his work is a twist on the Kentucky Fried Chicken slogan, Finger Lickin' Good.

While his award does not come with prize money, Wong told Life! that the most important thing that came out of winning was 'a sense of satisfaction'.

The Temasek Polytechnic graduate in product design has been working for three years as a commercial photographer, shooting products, homes and offices.

On what he hopes to achieve with his award, he said with a laugh: 'More jobs.'
