GET ready for some Crime scene investigation on Jan 19.

That's when fans of American singer Suzanne Vega can analyse her body of work at her first gig here.

Known for her intensely personal lyrics with compelling, short story-like narratives, she will perform at the Esplanade Concert Hall as part of her Beauty & Crime tour.

Vega will be singing songs mainly from her latest album Beauty & Crime, which was released on July 17.

It is the 48-year-old's first studio album in six years. She has released nine albums so far.

Her inspiration for the latest album reportedly came from her life experiences in New York City where she is based.

She first achieved worldwide success in 1987 with Luka, a song about domestic abuse, which was taken off second album Solitude Standing.

Last year, she became the first major recording artist to perform live in avatar form within the virtual world called Second Life.

  • Suzanne Vega will perform at the Esplanade Concert Hall on Jan 19 at 7.30pm. Tickets at $80, $100 and $120 will be available from Sistic from Sept 3. Call 6348-5555 for details.
