TOMORROW'S Sultan of Selangor Cup clash is not a friendly match, says V. Sundramoorthy.
The former national striker will coach an S-League selection against their Selangor counterparts in the annual fixture.
Last year, the Singapore side won the cup for the first time, after beating Selangor 3-0 at the National Stadium.
This time, the match will be played at the 70,000-capacity Shah Alam Stadium.
The prize money is RM50,000 (S$22,000).
Said Sundram: 'It is a competitive game, and we are going to do our best to retain the cup.'
The 40-year-old will have a busy night tomorrow.
He will put on his boots for the curtain-raiser between the veterans of Singapore and Selangor, before taking charge of the S-League side for the all-star game.
'To win both games will be excellent, but I think the all-star match is the one we want to win,' said Sundram.
Singapore v Selangor matches are steeped in rivalry, dating back to the days of the Malaysia Cup.
'Those matches had a very intense atmosphere,' recalled Sundram.
'As a player, I always enjoyed playing Selangor, although it was never easy to beat them.'
The S-League stars have never won the cup in Selangor's backyard.
This time, they have to contend with a side featuring Malaysian internationals like Akmal Rizal, Shukor Adan and Mohd Safee Sali.
Singapore's task has become more difficult, after Home United striker Indra Shahdan pulled out of the squad because of injury.
Sundram has called up Sengkang Punggol's Jonathon Angelucci, who will partner Tampines Rovers striker Noh Alam Shah in attack.
Injuries also forced the withdrawal of Fadzuhasny Juraimi (Geylang United), Sead Muratovic (Tampines) and Ratna Suffian (Balestier Khalsa).
They will be replaced by Winston Yap (Sengkang), Farizal Basri (Balestier) and Ridhwan Jamaludin (Young Lions).
Said Sundram: 'I'm happy with the players, and I am confident this team can win the cup.'
