THERE will be 777 civil marriages registered tomorrow, which is 07/07/07.
That is the tally from the Registry of Marriages (ROM) as at 5pm yesterday. While it is not known how many ceremonies will be held tomorrow at the ROM in Fort Canning, typically, 50 couples tie the knot there most days, with about 100 on Saturdays.
It will be a special date for them - 'triple seven' is a once-a-century affair.
Mr Raymond Wee, a grassroots licensed solemniser, has eight couples on his 'to-wed' list at the Stardus Clubhouse tomorrow. He said: 'Many couples choose this date as it is easy to remember.'
Spouses-to-be agree.
Ms Ng Ling Siew, who will be marrying her boyfriend of seven years, Mr Dean Baey, joked: 'He has no excuses for forgetting our anniversaries.'
It is not just the men who are getting it. Freelance designer Leo Chan has two good reasons to wed Ms Elynn Chia tomorrow. One is so she will not forget the date.
The other reason, Mr Chan, 25, explained: 'July 7 is also my birthday!'
He has also courted Ms Chia for seven years.
July 7 will be significant for Mr Sparks Ng and Ms Catrin Ler as well. The Singapore Airlines pilot and flight attendant met on board a Boeing 777.
There are already reports here and in other parts of the world that tomorrow will see hotels and other venues packed.
But Mr James Tan and Ms Rachel Ng, whose wedding dinner will be at the Grand Hyatt, are undeterred.
Mr Tan, 32, a product manager, said: 'It's no big deal to have the same wedding date as others. It'll still be a personal date for the two of us.'
