PUNTERS were not seeing double yesterday: 6904 did indeed win both the first and second prizes in the 4-D draw.
According to a spokesman for Singapore Pools, it was a 'one in a 100 million chance' and 'definitely very rare'.
Singapore Pools organises the 4-D draws that take place three times a week - Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
People can bet anything from a dollar upwards on a combination of four digits.
Last night's results created quite a buzz.
Madam Tan Heng Neo, 62, said she did a double-take when she checked the results last night.
'Those who bought it will be laughing all the way to the bank! In hindsight, I wish I bought that number too!' said the secretary with a laugh.
According to the Pools spokesman, the same four-digit number coming up twice is not unprecedented, but usually, it appears in the starter or consolation category, not as a double first-second prize whammy.
The first-prize 4-D payout is $2,000 for every dollar put in.
And if your winning number comes in second place, you get $1,000 for every dollar.
So, technically, a punter who bet $10 on 6904 on last night's draw will walk away $30,000 richer.
The Pools spokesman could not confirm how many people had bet and won on that number last night.
The biggest-ever 4-D windfall for a lucky punter was in March this year - with a payout of $15 million. The number: 5115.
