Edison says sorry for remarks

HONG KONG - Edison Chen has had to pay for his bad-boy behaviour again.

The actor-singer was forced by Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) chairman Albert Yeung to apologise publicly on Wednesday after shooting his mouth off about the Hong Kong music company.

Chen, who was involved in a road rage incident recently, was at a press conference in Taiwan on Tuesday to promote his new album when he commented on Emperor's artistes.

He said in Mandarin: 'Only brainless artistes would work with them. It is only suitable for such people.'

In an apparent dig at the company, Chen, a former EEG artiste who now has his own multimedia production firm, also raps in his new song Do You Remember Me?: 'Where was Edison these three years? Don't ask me, let Emperor tell you first.'

An angry Mr Yeung sent a lawyer's letter calling on Chen to apologise, reported United Daily News.

On Wednesday, Chen, 27, described the matter as a misunderstanding because of his poor command of Mandarin.

He said his lyrics were supposed to mean that he did not produce a Mandarin record for a while and that he wanted his fans to ask EEG why.

Explaining his comment about EEG's artistes, he said: 'Emperor has staff who guide new artistes. This is right as these artistes are clueless. I have been in this line for six, seven years and I have my own way of thinking.'

He apologised to the company and said: 'My relationship with EEG is good. I dine with Mr Yeung every month. He is my and my girlfriend's uncle. I respect him.' His girlfriend is Vincy Yeung, Mr Yeung's niece.

But the matter is apparently not over. EEG artiste manager Mani Fok described what Chen said at the press conference as slanderous and said the matter is in the hands of lawyers.

In March, Chen was placed on a one-year good behaviour bond by a court for kicking and damaging a taxi after he became enraged when the cab driver swore at him.
