THE three phases at a glance:
mp1 (1997 to 2002)
Computer laboratories were introduced in schools.
Teachers were taught the basics of word processing and presentation software, with each receiving at least 30 hours of training from 60 senior information and communications technology (ICT) instructors.
ICT-enabled lessons were to make up 30 per cent of curriculum time.
mp2 (2003 to 2008)
Autonomy was given to schools to decide how to integrate ICT into classes.
Baseline ICT standards for students were introduced - for example, basic typing skills by Primary 3.
mp3 (2009 to 2014)
Bandwidth at schools will increase to 1Gbps, in line with the ICT masterplan - Intelligent Nation 2015.
More students will receive individual computers.
Educational labs will be established to train specialist teachers and develop new ICT techniques.
A unit will be set up by the Ministry of Education to develop research in effective teaching methods.
Specialist teachers will lead the integration of ICT into classrooms and curriculum.
Fifteen FutureSchools will be set up by 2015, which are designated as leaders in classroom technology.
