Offered a contract by Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, but opted to sign for Indonesian club Niac Mitra instead.

Joined Dutch side FC Groningen. Scored in a shock 2-0 second-round, first-leg Uefa Cup win over Italian giants Inter Milan in his debut season. Would end up with 10 goals in 29 appearances.
1984
Voted the Most Popular Player and the Most Valuable Player by Groningen fans. Ended his Dutch stint, but not before becoming a legend at the club. In 1999, he was voted one of the best 25 players for FC Groningen, earning him a place in the club's Hall of Fame. In 2003, he was named in the club's best XI for the 20th century.
1986
Ajax came knocking again, but Fandi rejected their overture. He chose to remain in Asia, this time signing for Malaysian side Kuala Lumpur FC.
1990
Joined Greek outfit OFI Crete. Move lasted only a few months. Returned to Malaysia to join Pahang in 1991.
