Badminton: China's world No1s Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang are favourites for the men and women's singles.
Diving: The top gold-getter at Athens 2004, the current team are led by defending 3m springboard champion Guo Jingjing (above).
Gymnastics: China won the men's team title at last year's World Championships, led by all-around winner Yang Wei, Xiao Qin (pommel horse) and Chen Yibing (rings).
Rowing: China are expected to make a golden breakthrough after targeting the sport in a big way.
Shooting: China should do even better than 2004. Women's world and Olympic 10m air rifle champion Du Li should open the floodgates on the first morning. If not Pang Wei, the men's 10m air pistol world champion, will in the afternoon.
Table tennis: China could sweep all four golds - with men's world No 1 Wang Hao and No 2 Ma Lin, and women's world No 1 Zhang Yining in the line-up.
Weightlifting: China led the tally at last year's World Championships with seven golds and 12 overall.
