Last week, 158 people were infected, 13 more than in the previous seven days. In the first 22 weeks of this year, 2,264 people caught the illness, compared to 2,174 during the same period last year.
Characterised by a high fever, body aches and vomiting, the disease can be fatal. It is officially regarded as an epidemic when more than 378 cases are reported in a week. The NEA said though dengue cases usually rise gradually at this time of the year, residents should not be complacent.
There are now four large 'active' dengue clusters that have more than 10 cases each. The biggest is in Hougang Avenue 3, which saw 39 infected. The rest are in Serangoon Avenue 4, Yishun and Toa Payoh.
There are also 20 clusters with less than 10 active cases of dengue fever. A cluster is active if at least two people in an area have dengue, with the latest case having surfaced in the past two weeks.
