Wash and shampoo hair regularly. Contrary to popular belief, shampoos do not cause hair loss. Use conditioner regularly to maintain healthy hair and repair hair that is chemically damaged.
Whenever possible, air-dry hair rather than blow-drying it. Heat can cause damage to hair texture.
Avoid twisting, rubbing or pulling hair excessively. Tight hairstyles such as braids, hair weaves or simply tying back the hair with too much force put pressure on the hairline and can lead to hair loss due to the physical stress on the hair.
A healthy lifestyle helps. This includes regular sleep and a balanced diet. Minerals such as iron, zinc and biotin (found in nuts, seeds, eggs and dairy) are required for healthy hair.
Wear a hat to protect the scalp from the sun, especially if you spend a large amount of time outdoors.
