HFMD is spread through blister fluid, saliva, faeces and sometimes droplets in breath. There is no known cure.
Here are some things that parents and caregivers can do to stop its spread:
Children should wash their hands with soap before eating and after going to the toilet, cover their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing and avoid sharing eating utensils.
Toys and appliances that are dirty with mucus, saliva or phlegm should be washed before being used again.
Seek treatment right away if a child has a fever, ulcers in the mouth and rashes on the palms, soles or buttocks. A child with the disease should stay at home until all blisters have dried up and avoid contact with other children or going to public places.
