'I think there's really no need to worry about the produce we get here. We have looked at the amount of food imported over the last few months and the quantity and supply are normal. We've not seen any trend of shortages. Although we expect some food prices to move because energy and commodities have gone up, there's no expectation of a sharp spike in food prices.
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority is keeping a close watch on sources of supply.
We do go out actively to seek sources. We have 26 countries that are approved to supply meat to us, and we've just recently added the Philippines and Chile. So this is something that we're doing on an ongoing basis, making sure that we have a wide variety of sources. Should any source be a problem, we can always easily switch to another one.
In terms of supply we're very resilient. We have no need to worry about it, and we also urge the consumer to look at alternatives like frozen meat.' - SENIOR MINISTER OF STATE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
