A KEY START: Toddler Janell (top) tinkling the ivories, (above) playing at a concert at eight years of age and (below) receiving the HSBC Youth Excellence Award from President S R Nathan in July last year.
'Playing the violin is very enjoyable. It is very relaxing not just for the body but also the mind. I just love its sound. It feels like a part of you when you play it. Whatever emotion you have, you can make the violin express it'
On what draws her to the violin
'I like Beyonce. She is talented and not afraid of what people think of her music. I think her music is very expressive'
On the music she listens to
'No boyfriends for me, not yet. I always see my friends and hear all about their bad experiences. I don't want to go through it. I want to stay focused on my music'
On why the only love she is looking for right now is that of her family (Janell, above, with her mum Sharon, dad Gerald and brother Preston)
