THE PROBLEM SPOTS
Problem area: The Esplanade underpass
Why: The stench of urine can be smelt when one exits CityLink Mall to go to the Esplanade. The Sunday Times found that the odour originates from a blackened and caved-in spot on the ceiling just above the bottom of the upward escalator. Loiterers have been spotted urinating in the storeroom above the escalator.
Problem area: Lucky Plaza
Why: Tenants have been suffering from the urine stench that comes from a staircase connected to the Lucky Plaza apartments. Most of them have to hold their breath as they run across that pathway. The smell is unbearable on hot days, they said.
Problem area: Orchard Towers
Why: Tenants and cleaners said that, with the many bars located there, the building has to contend with its share of drunkards who pee at the most convenient spots, like stairwells or by the side of the building.
Problem area: Hong Lim Complex
Why: The carpark is as good as a public toilet, one disgusted shop owner told The Sunday Times. A shop assistant said that he sees people - mostly older men in their 50s and 60s - peeing there almost every day.
