Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir beat Mr Idris Ahmad of PAS in Jerlun, Kedah.
The entry of Datuk Mukhriz, widely known as 'anak Tun Mahathir' (Tun Mahathir's son), into the political fray has been one tough ride.
The predominantly Malay seat (90 per cent Malays) in far north Kedah, Jerlun has traditionally favoured PAS. In fact, BN won the seat by merely 2,000 votes in 2004.
However, part of Jerlun used to be under Kubang Pasu, where Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was MP for three decades, which could smoothen the ride for Datuk Mukhriz.
CHE UDA CHE NIK (PAS)
Che Uda Che Nik beat BN's Datuk Osman Desa in the Sik parliamentary constituency in Kedah by 481 votes.
Datuk Osman, Prime Minister Abdullah's political secretary, is an Islamic Studies graduate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
His PAS opponent secured 16,864 votes out of 33,752 votes cast.
Back in 2004, BN had taken this seat with a 319-vote majority.
YAHYA ABDULLAH (PAS)
Yahya Abdullah beat Datuk Hasbullah Isa, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi's other political secretary, for the Jeneri state seat by a mere 167 votes.
The PAS candidate secured 8,608 votes out of the 17,300 votes cast.
In 2004, BN had won the seat with a majority of 640 votes.
