'My doctor recommended that I allow myself additional time to rest and recover from this injury so that it is completely healed,' she said in a statement released by the Women's Tennis Association Tour. 'Obviously, this is one of the worst times of the year for me to have an injury.'
Mauresmo, formerly ranked No1 and now No7, won the Australian Open and Wimbledon last year. She has reached the quarter-finals or semi-finals at the US Open each of the past six years.
