Health centres and support groups are putting a different and fun spin on health education and treatment by organising activities such as sailing on the high seas and shopping in Malaysia.

Such events, which include health check-ups, educational talks and sharing sessions, are beginning to gain traction here.

Private health-care group Health Management International (HMI) has a health-screening holiday that includes a comprehensive body check-up plus a bout of shopping. There are seven packages to choose from, each with different types of tests, starting from about $390.

Participants are picked up from home and taken to the Regency Specialist Hospital - owned and managed by HMI - in Johor Baru where the half-day check-up is done.
